The Finnish shipyard of the co-owners of the Russian cruise shipping company “Vodokhod” Helsinki Shipyard is preparing within a week to hand over the first cruise ship to the customer since the change of ownership, the company told us.
Arctech Helsinki Shipyard was previously 100% owned by russian UBC, which is under EU and US sanctions. In May 2020, the corporation sold this shipyard to the co-owners of Vodokhod, which was named Helsinki Shipyard Oy. Former Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation and former head of Rosmorrechflot Viktor Olersky became the Chairman of the Board of Helsinki Shipyard.
“The first of three Vega-class ships under construction in Helsinki for Swan Hellenic has been named SH Minerva. The vessel should leave the shipyard early next week, ”the company said.
The day before, a naming ceremony was held with the participation of the family of the mayor of the Finnish capital Juhana Vartiainen and the top management of Helsinki Shipyard.
The shipyard announced on October 21, 2020 that it received orders from the British company Swan Hellenic for the construction of three ice-class cruise ships in the “luxury” configuration worth up to 400 million euros.
The vessels are designed with the latest environmental regulations in mind and are fully autonomous for up to 40 days or 8,000 nautical miles, the organization said.
