Putin’s presents for finnish president were bought in USA

Archival documents of the family of General Mannerheim, which Russian President Vladimir Putin presented to his Finnish colleague Sauli Niinistö on the 70th anniversary, were sold this spring at one of the auctions in the US, told Finnish National Archives.
Earlier it became known that on August 22, during the visit of Ninistö in Sochi, Putin presented him with a gift for the 70th anniversary of 170 documents and photographs related to Marshal Gustav Mannerheim and other members of his family. Niinistö gave the gift to the National Archives of Finland.
”The collection of documents of the Mannerheim family, which President Putin gave President Niinistö as a birthday present, were for sale in an American auction firm called Live Auctioneers. If you register yourself on their website, you can get access to more information, but not regarding when and where the Russians bought it. They may even have bought them second hand”, told NewsFi Kenth Sjöblom from Finnish National archives .
The collection contains about half a dozen of documents of Gustaf Mannerheim and some 170 letters by other members of the family.
If you have time, you can come and visit the small exhibition, which will be open on Monday 9.00-16.00.
