Finland and Latvia have agreed on the procurement of armored personnel carriers from the Finnish Patria

Finland, Latvia and the Finnish defense company Patria have signed a framework agreement on a common armored vehicle system, according to the Finnish Defense Ministry.
“The Ministries of Defense of Finland, Latvia and Patria signed on 30 August a framework agreement on the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS)…. The purpose of the agreement is to create a basis for cooperation at the procurement stage, ”the message says.
At the same time, the Finnish Ministry of Defense and Patria signed a letter of intent for the purchase of 160 new armored personnel carriers in 2023.
To date, as a result of research and development, a common APC platform has been obtained, which meets the general requirements established by Finland and Latvia. After signing the agreement, the participating countries can sign their national procurement contracts, taking into account their national timetables, the ministry said.
In October 2020, Finland and Latvia allocated 7.3 million euros for the development of an armored personnel carrier based on the Patria 6×6 vehicle manufactured by Patria Oy.
The Ministry of Defense clarifies that the program remains open for the accession of third countries.
