Passenger traffic on the Finnish-Russian border in 2021 was the lowest in 2 years

Passenger traffic on the Finnish-Russian border in 2021 amounted to almost 970 thousand people, which was the lowest figure in recent years, said on Tuesday a representative of the Border Guard of Finland Mira Alopaeus.

A total of 2,434,606 people crossed the Finnish-Russian border in 2020.
“For 2021, the total number of crossings was 969948 people. The largest number of people passed through the border point of Vaalimaa (Torfyanovka) 338511 and Nuijamaa (Brusnichnoye) 274990”, – she noted.

By train 4,524 people have crossed the border since the passenger rail service was restored in mid-December.

Border crossing is regulated by both Russian and Finnish restrictions imposed by both countries because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The border has been closed to tourism since March 19, 2020.
