DB Schenker acquires a Finnish company in anticipation of an increase in cargo turnover with Russia

German DB Schenker, a leader in the provision of international logistics services, is completing the acquisition of the Finnish logistics company Vähälä Yhtiöt, thereby expanding the transport corridor through the country towards Russia, told RIA Novosti at the Russian trade office in Finland.
DB Schenker is observing an explosive growth in freight traffic between Russia and Finland, which is “the undisputed leader in the number of groupage shipments to Russia.”

“Despite the pandemic and the restrictions still in force, we are already witnessing a steady growth in freight traffic in the Russia-Finland route. Comparing the volume of groupage shipments with similar indicators of the last year, we can say that it increased by 65%. We owe this explosive growth to the capabilities of the European DB Schenker network, to which Russia joined in early 2021, ”the trade mission said in a statement.

That is why DB Schenker decided to expand its export corridor for groupage shipments through Finland by purchasing the Finnish logistics group Vähälä Yhtiöt, which has five terminals and more than 265 employees throughout the country. The trade mission found it difficult to assess the timing of the completion of the transaction for the acquisition of the Finnish enterprise.
