Chinese company wins million-kronor bid to help expand Stockholm metro

China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG) has won one of the first procurement contracts for Stockholm’s planned expansion of its metro, reports business newssite Dagens industri.

The bid landed at 276 million kronor ($28 million) for three tunnels that will be used by construction workers, which bosses for the project by Region Stockholm argue is a sensible price level.

However, the CEO of runner-up Subterra Sverige, Patrick Marelius, told Dagens industri it was far below cost price. According to him it would be impossible to carry out the work for that money, and he criticized that a Chinese state-owned company should compete in the Swedish tunnel market.

But Bergman said he had no concerns about it, nor about a Chinese company posing a security risk.

“We haven’t evaluated that. We have evaluated based on qualification requirements and price and we have evaluated all entrepreneurs in an equal way,” he told Dagens industri.
