A railroad strike in Finland will affect all traffic, including freight

A strike by locomotive drivers on Finland’s railways will affect traffic throughout the country, including freight, according to the country’s rail operator, VR.
“The Association of Railways Trade Unions (RAU) has announced strikes that will affect all Finnish rail traffic on Friday 21 May. Due to the protest, almost all passenger trains will be canceled on May 21 from 00-24 hours. The protest also affects VR freight transport, which is reported to customers separately, ”the statement reads.
Locomotive drivers said they would return to work from midnight Saturday, with traffic expected to return to normal over the weekend.
According to the union, the strike is being held in protest against VR’s HR policy, where an employer violates an existing employment contract, in particular by forcing drivers to work after hours.
